I Love To Crochet!
The art of crochet is an art form that mothers and grandmothers would teach all the girls in the family at a young age. I learned around 5 years old. I wasn’t very good at my young age, in time I grew to love the art of crocheting.
I have to admit, I love the look of knitted items. I just don’t have the ability to knit, not for the lack of trying. My almost grown daughter was taught to knit by my mother and to this day she continues to knit for sheer enjoyment.
Throughout life I have always crocheted. As some will become excited by chocolate, I become excited at the site of new yarn. My crochet hook collection has doubles of every size needle available.
I have bags of yarn sorted by compatible colors and design. All of my stored yarn is kept in large plastic bags that zip closed, air tight. I only purchase yarn when I can find it on sale. Therefore I have a collection in my closet that waits for my hands and fingers to weave it into something beautiful and desirable.
My closet has bags that are set with a project in each one. At the moment I have 3 bags waiting for my attention; one bag has red wavy yarn that is being crocheted into a blanket for my bed, the second bag has pink and green yarn that is being crocheted into a doll’s blanket and the third bag has cotton yarn that is being woven into small dish and cleaning cloths for my home. During my outings I will grab one of the project bags and take it with me, as to continue the item I am working on. I have found this to be the most relaxing way to bide my time when waiting in a doctors office, at a baseball game, or even while my husband is driving.
The first crochet book I fell in love with was Vogue’s Dictionary of Crochet Stitches in paperback. Use this link to see the used copies of Vogue Dictionary of Crochet Stitches at Amazon. Or do a search on Vogue Dictionary of Crochet Stitches and come up with http://www.woolcrafting.com/vogue-dictionary-of-crochet-stitches.html this website which will even show you a photo!
I highly recommend buying a copy of this book. The book teaches you the pattern to use and what the calculation of stitches will be, in order for you to size the item appropriately. I often use this book when making baby blankets. I choose an agreeable pattern; the instructions will tell me to create an odd or even amount in stitches. In some cases the stitches are in sets of 3 or 5 or 7. Depending on the pattern you choose I can assure you that you will find this book fascinating and will use it for years to come.
The newest addition to my library in crochet books is the The Crochet Answer Book: Solutions to Every Problem You'll Ever Face; Answers to Every Question You'll Ever Ask; see the link to this article to review the book for you. Although I was unsure if this would become a favorite of mine, I found myself using it over and over. It is a wonderful resource of information for all levels of crochet fans.
Enjoy your time with a favorite past time! Enjoy the things you make!
